Exact asymptotics for the strong-field macroscopic magnetotransport of a composite medium
Abstract
The strong-field magnetotransport is considered for the case of a generic three-dimensional composite where all the constituents are normal metals. The local electric field and current distribution turns out to be considerably simpler than it is in the absence of a magnetic field. Closed-form asymptotic expressions are found for some elements of the macroscopic magnetoresistivity tensor. Numerical calculations of the local field and current distributions are performed and compared to their predicted asymptotic behavior. Those computations are also used to determine the components of the macroscopic magnetoresistivity tensor which are also compared with the closed-form asymptotic expressions. Critical points are identified in the macroscopic response.
