Geotail EPIC - The New Data Services and Future Plan
Abstract
Energetic Particles and Ion Composition (EPIC) instrument onboard Geotail spacecraft is designed to study the dynamics of the Earth’s magnetotail and its interaction with the solar wind. Since the launch in 1992, EPIC data have provided the science community worldwide a great opportunity to better understand and advance our knowledge about the Earth’s magnetosphere, leading to many significant scientific findings. For further service to the science community and for better preservation of the EPIC data, a new data product, in ISTP-compliant Common Data Format (CDF), has recently been developed at the full instrument resolutions. The successful experience of EPIC data products and services has established the strong foundation for the preparation of moving the data towards the residential archive to further extend our data services and satisfy the high demand from the broad science community. In our presentation, we would like to present our available data products and services as well as our plan for the residential archive and future development.
