Proxy Inconsistency and Confidence Interval Estimation
Abstract
In statistical terms, paleoclimate reconstructions are an application of multivariate calibration, which provides a theoretical basis for confidence interval calculation based on inconsistency tests. Inconsistency tests from statistical literature on calibration are described and applied to proxy data sets from recent multiproxy literature, resulting in surprisingly different results than claimed in paleoclimate literature.
