Reutilization of waste LCD panel glass as a building material
Abstract
Recently due to drastically increasing demand of liquid crystal display (LCD) panel in IT industry, waste LCD panel glass are also produced from abandoned electronic items or panel glass of poor quality during manufacturing process and should be treated properly. Waste LCD panel glass was crushed to 3 to 13mm in size and evaluated for its usefulness as aggregates in production of cement concrete brick. Cement concrete specimens with various mixing ratios of weathered granite soil, LCD panel glass and cement were cured in wetness for 28 days and then tested for uniaxial comprehensive strength (UCS)(KS F 4004 method). Specimen with a mixing ratio, 1:6:3, of weathered granite, LCD panel glass and cement, respectively, showed the highest average USC(31.3MPa) which is much higher than that(12.1MPa) of commercial brick without glass. Conclusively it is suggested that waste LCD panel glass can be reutilized economically as a raw building material of good quality.
