Territorial Diagnostics Geophysical Surveys for the Evaluation of Damage Susceptability of Historical Centres
Abstract
Structural and territorial diagnostic integrated procedures at different resolution levels are proposed: from single building to an urban core. The assessment of the damage susceptibility of complex elements of the territory is made starting with the geomorphological structure of the area in study up to specific surveys on the typological and constructive main elements of the urban context, with reference to the formation and transformation processes of the city. A methodological approach of surveys is proposed, with a significant application in the Naso city, in the province of Messina (Italy), whose historical center is located on a fractured calcarenite plate lying on clayey substrate lithologically various and surrounded by slopes with overhanging walls. The territorial diagnostic geophysical surveys are aimed at the characterization of the level of geomorphological instability of the area where the historical center of the Naso city lies and, with greater detail, the determination of the effects of rainwater and seepage flow through the fracture of the calcarenite plate.
