The NPOESS to JPSS Transition and the NPOESS Preparatory Project
Abstract
We will provide an overview of the NPOESS Preparatory Project (NPP) and the newly formed Joint Polar Satellite System (JPSS) program. In February of 2010 the White House announced a major restructuring of the NPOESS Program. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) will take primary responsibility for the afternoon polar environmental satellite orbit and the Department of Defense will take primary responsibility for the early morning orbit. The NOAA program is called the Joint Polar Satellite System (JPSS), which includes a partnership with Eumetsat. This update will include information on sensors, data products, and the spacecraft as well as the current schedules for NPP and JPSS. The presentation will also touch on cooperation with International Partners, both current and future.
