Quake Detection Using MDI and GONG Data
Abstract
We compare the results of sunquake detection from high-cadence observations of dopplergrams and intensities obtianed by GONG and SOHO/MDI. The two methods: acoustic holography and time-distance diagrams, are used to investigate three well-known acoustically active flares: M-class September 9, 2001, and two X-class flares on October 28 and 29, 2003. We show that in spite of the GONG data being subject to atmospheric effects such as smearing, with the correction suggested in Lindsey Donea 2008 combined with the additional processing procedures, the GONG data can be used for a confident sunquake detection.
