The GOSAT level 2 and other upper-level data products
Abstract
The operational processing of observational data collected with both of the GOSAT sensors, the TANSO Fourier Transform Spectrometer (FTS) and the TANSO Cloud and Aerosol Imager (CAI), has been ongoing for nearly one-and-a-half years, and some of the upper-level GOSAT standard data products are now available to the general users. Among the data products already released is the TANSO-FTS SWIR Level 2 data product that stores column abundances of CO2 and CH4 retrieved from the short-wave infrared (SWIR) spectral data. This year, the Level 2 retrieval algorithm received the first major update, and the re-processed results were released in August 2010 as Version 01 of the data product. The NIES GOSAT Project team has been closely collaborating with the members of the Atmospheric Carbon Observation from Space (ACOS) team at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in improving both groups' CO2 retrieval algorithms. The ACOS team started distributing CO2 datasets this year, which were produced from the same TANSO-FTS SWIR spectral data (Level 1B) but using their retrieval algorithms and data processing systems. A comparison of the both teams' retrieval schemes and XCO2 values are presented here. In addition, we will show samples of the upper-level GOSAT data products, which include the TANSO-FTS SWIR Level 3 data product (global distributions of the XCO2 and XCH4). The preparation of the Level 4A and 4B data products, which are inversely estimated regional fluxes and three-dimensional XCO2 distributions, are underway. Samples of the CAI standard data products, which include cloud flag (Level 2), global radiance distribution (Level 3), global reflectance distribution (Level 3), and global normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) (Level 3) will be also presented.
