Evaluation of an Improved Retrieval of OMI NO2 Column Using Within Boundary Layer Aircraft Observations
Abstract
We describe an OMI NO2 retrieval based on high resolution surface albedo and terrain pressure and using a self-consistent cloud retrieval. We describe this retrieval and compare it to the NASA standard product and to column NO2 derived using aircraft boundary layer measurements during the ARCTAS-CARB campaign. We show that it is advantageous to use all data collected in the planetary boundary layer for validation and use the observations to quantify the improvements of high resolution input parameters on NO2 column retrieval.
