ACOS Glint-mode Total Column CO2 Retrievals from GOSAT
Abstract
In preparation for the launch of the OCO-2 instrument, retrieval algorithms for total CO2 have been developed and refined by the Atmospheric Carbon Observations from Space (ACOS) team and tested using nadir spectral data from the Greenhouse gases Observing SATellite (GOSAT) instrument currently in-flight. Retrievals are made using near-IR sunlight reflected back from the surface. For adequate signal-to-noise, ocean observations can only be processed in glint mode. We describe modifications to the ACOS retrieval algorithm to process observations made over ocean glint, and present current results for total column CO2.
