Interesting patterns from umbral lunar eclipses

Plots of lunar eclipse dates against a number of variables, for example Earth-Sun distance at the time of the eclipse, produce diagrams that exhibit surprising patterns and lines. In this paper, three such plots are presented and the underlying causes of the observed patterns are explained.
