GNSS Software Receiver for the MAGIA (Missione Altimetrica Geofisica GeochImica lunAre) Mission
Abstract
In recent years a number of missions have been conceived to acquire and track signals from GPS satellites at altitudes higher than the GPS constellation itself. Many studies have focused on geostationary satellite or HEO (High elevation orbits) missions demonstrating that not only the spill-over from the main lobe but also the contribution from second and the third lobes have sufficient signal to noise ratio to be acquired. The Mission MAGIA (Missione Altimetrica Geofisica GeochImica lunAre) was proposed in the framework of the "Bando per Piccole Missioni" of ASI (2007). The mission was selected for a phase A study by the ASI CdA on February 7th 2008 with RHI-Italy as Prime Contractor and INAF as Science Coordinator. The Mission, now under ASI evaluation for potential phase B award, is planned to be launched on 2012.
