Investigation of Pre-X Reentry Vehicle Aerodynamics at TsAGI Wind Tunnels
Abstract
The main goal of this work was obtaining of PRE-X aerodynamic data in the range of angle of attack 30< AoA< 90 and Mach number from hypersonic to subsonic. The work includes: scheme and parameters of the PRE-X model and experimental results of PRE-X model investigation at TsAGI wind tunnels T- 117, T-116, T-128. The important questions of ground experimental modeling are discussed: provision of the main similarity criteria, model scale selection, choice of experimental methods and techniques. An analysis of experimental results including non monotonic behavior of the pitching moment in hypersonic range at significant flap deflection, pitching and yawing self-excited oscillations of model in transonic speeds, stability and controllability problems at high angles of attack. Obtained experimental data can be used for estimation of PRE-X vehicle flight characteristics and calculation of reentry trajectory.
