Three-dimensional Integration, Analysis, and Visualization of Simulated and Observed Heliophysics Data
Abstract
We present a software package that integrates simulated and observed heliophysics data. It provides a 3-D environment to 1) validate simulation results with observed data or compare results between different models, 2) use simulated data to provide a global context for the sparse, observed data, and 3), apply feature detection techniques to the simulated data. In this final case, we demonstrate the use of a vortex detection algorithm during time intervals where a Kelvin-Helmholtz (KH) instability is likely present. The software is built into ViSBARD (Visual System for Browsing, Analysis, and Retrieval of Data) and uses MHD data and access libraries from the Community Coordinated Modeling Center (CCMC).
