Establishing Connections between Magnetospheric Features and Ionospheric Observations through CCMC simulations
Abstract
The Community Coordinated Modeling Center has been performing simulations of space physics models for scientists with an increasing range of models. In the magnetosphere-ionosphere domain two models (GUMICS and LFM-MIX) have been recently added to the existing models SWMF and OpenGGCM in the Run-on-Request suite. To study an specific event, simulations using this variety of magnetosphere-ionosphere models may offer an alternative view compared to statistical magnetic field models and may improve the understanding of coupled events under storm-time conditions. We compare how features found in magnetospheric MHD models relate to observations in the ionosphere. We will focus on events selected by the CAWSES campaign and the THEMIS working group.
