Analytical determination of the Fermi velocity in multiwalled carbon nanotubes
Abstract
The quantized Fermi velocity in a multiwalled carbon nanotube is determined analytically by considering the tube as a one-dimensional quantum electrical conductor such that the above velocity scales with the number of layers of the tube. In fact, an expression for the magnitude of the quantized Fermi velocity is derived in terms of the free-electron mass and tube length. Comparison with previous theoretical results are made. In addition, from the expression for the Fermi velocity, the existence of an associated quantized electric field is discussed.
