Suzaku observation of nearby Seyfert 2 galaxy NGC 4945
Abstract
We report the Suzaku observation of a nearby bright Seyfert 2 galaxy NGC 4945 Making the most use of spectral capabilities of XIS and HXD onboard Suzaku we have obtained a wide-band X-ray spectrum of NGC 4945 in the 0 5 to 200 keV range with significant signal statistics After we estimated the contamination from point sources within the galaxy referring the Chandra and XMM-Newton results we successfully decomposed the spectrum into various components such as a power low component Gamma sim 2 from the nucleus which is heavily absorbed by a medium with a column density of NH sim 5 times 10 24 cm -2 and then visible only above 10 keV with HXD a significant iron line feature between 6 4 and 7 0 keV a reflection components a thermal emission associated with the galaxy In addition we have newly discovered a transient ultraluminous compact X-ray source ULX which has a luminosity of about 10 40 erg s in the south-west region within the galaxy The spectrum of the ULX is described by a multi color disk model with a temperature of about 1 6 keV Based on these results we will discuss the nature of NGC 4945 in detail in comparison with the previous observations
