The FAIR accelerator project at GSI
Abstract
The project Facility for Antiproton and Ion Research (FAIR) is an international accelerator facility, which builds on the experience and technological developments already made at the existing GSI facility and other laboratories. It also incorporates new technological concepts and unprecedented challenges in beam dynamics and control of space charge and beam quality. It includes a double ring synchrotron facility SIS100/300 and a system of cooler-storage rings CR, RESR, NESR and HESR for effective beam cooling at high energies. The existing GSI accelerators UNILAC and SIS18 serve as injector for the new facility.
