2006 GY2
Abstract
L. A. M. Benner, Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL); M. C. Nolan, Arecibo Observatory; M. K. Shepard, Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania; J. D. Giorgini and S. J. Ostro, JPL; M. W. Busch, California Institute of Technology; and A. A. Hine, Arecibo Observatory, report that Arecibo and Goldstone delay-Doppler radar observations of 2006 GY2 on May 15-16 show that this Apollo-type minor planet (cf. MPEC 2006-G37) is a binary system. Preliminary estimates for the diameters are 400 m for the primary and 80 m for the secondary. The maximum orbital distance between the components is at least 500 m.
