Goniopolarimetric analysis of type III solar radio bursts from CASSINI/RPWS/HFR observations.
Abstract
Thanks to the goniopolarimetric capabilities (also referred as direction finding capabilities) of the High Frequency Receiver (HFR), which is part of the Radio and Plasma Waves Science experiment (RPWS) onboard CASSINI, it is possible to obtain instantaneously the flux, the polarization and the wave vector direction of an incoming electromagnetic wave. A set of goniopolarimetric analytical inversions has recently been developed and applied to the RPWS/HFR data in order to study the Jovian and Kronian radio emissions. Using these set of tools, we present new results applied to type III solar radio bursts (intense extended radio emission produced by suprathermal electrons travelling along open magnetic field lines to lower densities in the interplanetary medium), observed during Earth flyby of CASSINI in 1999. Extension of this latter model to extended radio sources will be then applied to STEREO/WAVES solar radio emissions observations.
