Abstract
The problem we address is including the opacity of millions or hundreds of millions of lines in model stellar atmosphere calculations, then generating detailed, realistic spectra from those model atmospheres, then modelling the observation process, and finally comparing the calculated spectra to observed spectra to determine the properties of stars so that we can understand their evolution and the evolution of galaxies. We describe the current status of Kurucz's programs and atomic and molecular line data.
