Feature Extraction of CPS as a Performance Index for Load Frequency Control of Interconnected Power Systems
Abstract
Recently, the assessment of control area performance has become an important subject in interconnected power systems. The North American Reliability Council (NERC) has adopted the control performance standards CPS1 and CPS2 for this purpose since 1997. However, the characteristics of these indices are not fully known.
This paper investigates the performance of CPS through analysis of two-area systems. Major dynamic elements of interconnected systems affecting the frequency are taken into account to investigate responses of the system against load disturbance. The analysis of CPS2 shows that, when two systems are interconnected, the smaller system tends to require more effort of control against load disturbance to keep the standard depending on condition.- Publication:
