3D Visualization of Space Weather Model Output at the Community Coordinated Modeling Center
Abstract
With the creation of advanced and more complex space weather models, a need arises to visualize the results in ways other than the standard two dimensional static plots and in ways that can easily be understood. We are developing an advanced 3D visualization tool, Space Weather Explorer (SWX); a free tool based on the opens source Data Explorer (OpenDX). In this presentation, we explain the advantages of the OpenDX platform, as well as the advantages of utilizing the data format standardization libraries available at the CCMC. This enables the visualization of any model supported by the libraries with minimal code changes. We will introduce SWX, and discuss the interactive features available and types of output, including VRML images. We will also discuss the uses for the web and future goals of the project.
