MEX/ASPERA-3/NPD e NPI data statistical analysis
Abstract
The ASPERA-3 units NPI and NPD on board Mars Express are devoted to ENA detection within the Martian environment. These ENA result from the interaction between the energetic ions flowing inside the Martian environment and the exospheric neutral gas, thus providing crucial information about the dynamics of this interaction. NPI records the instantaneous angular distribution of the energy-integrated ENA signal; NPD is able to perform a time of flight analysis of the same signal. In the present study such measurements are filtered with respect to the satellite position, and then averaged over extended time windows. NPI signal is also filtered with respect to the instantaneous field of view of each unit sector. In order to emphasize the recurrent signals, the count rates are integrated in various reference frames, then the most relevant NPD average signals are highlighted and analysed in terms of time of flight spectra characteristics.
