Developing Use Cases to address Domain Analysis for the Earth's climate and upper atmosphere
Abstract
The Coupling, Energetics and Dynamics of Atmospheric Regions (CEDAR) database is composed of an eclectic collection of data from varied sources encompassing multiple diagnostic techniques, theory, modeling, and coordinated observational campaigns. Earth System Grid (ESG) integrates supercomputers with large-scale data and analysis servers located at numerous national labs and research centers to create a powerful environment for next generation climate research. The challenge presented by distributing data collection to users for both systems emcompasses anaylisis of user requirements, design of a user interface, fast data search and retrival as well as comprehensive cataloging. The application domain analysis is addressed through the coordinated development of Use Cases. The subsequent experience and final system is presented in this paper.
