Global Scale Modeling of the Equatorial Electrojet in the Light of Satellite Magnetic Measurements
Abstract
The spatial and temporal characteristics of the Equatorial Electrojet (EEJ) are studied on global scale using CHAMP and Oersted satellite magnetic measurements. In the light of these results, the empirical equatorial electrojet model (3 EM) was re-evaluated. Notice that the 3EM was computed by Doumouya et al (2003) on the basis of the worldwide magnetic measurements during the International Equatorial Electrojet Year (IEEY). The results of this model have already been compared to CHAMP satellite preliminary data (Doumouya and Cohen, 2004). The purpose of the present work is improving the 3EM in order to better dealing with satellite borne EEJ magnetic signature.
