Tomography of the Yellowstone Region
Abstract
Data from over 250 seismometers from seven regional and temporary arrays has been collected in order to study the Yellowstone hotspot and the surrounding region. These data create a super array with an approximately 900-km-wide aperture centered on the Yellowstone caldera. Delay times from this array are used to form tomographic images of the mantle. In order to obtain better resolution and account for waveform-healing effects, we are currently investigating the use of banana-doughnut finite-frequency kernels (Dahlen et al., 2000).
