Japan Seismic Hazard Information Station, J-SHIS
Abstract
The Headquarters for Earthquake Research Promotion (HERP) of Japan published the national seismic hazard maps of Japan in March 2005. The national seismic hazard maps are made by the earthquake research committee of Japan in the basis of the long-term evaluation of seismic activity and evaluation of strong-motion. The hazard maps consist of two kinds of hazard maps. One kind of hazard maps are probabilistic seismic hazard maps that show the relation between seismic intensity value and its probability of exceedance within certain time period. The other kind of hazard maps are scenario earthquake shake maps. The National Research Institute for Earth Science and Disaster Prevention (NIED) promoted the special research project _eNational Seismic Hazard Mapping Project of Japan_f to support the preparation of the seismic hazard maps. In this project, we developed an open web system to provide interactive information retrieval system for the hazard maps and we named this system Japan Seismic Hazard Information Station, J-SHIS(http://www.j-shis.bosai.go.jp/). We aimed to disseminate processes of uncertainty evaluation and to meet multi-purpose needs in engineering uses. The information provided from J-SHIS include not only the results of the hazard maps but also various information required in the processes of making the hazard maps, such as data on seismic activity, source models and underground structure. We will develop the J-SHIS as seismic hazard information sharing bases.
