The effect of the 11-year solar cycle on stratospheric ozone and its impact on climate.
Abstract
In this study, the impact of the 11-year solar cycle on climate is investigated with a global climate model including an interactive detailed chemistry scheme. Two multiannual integrations for minimum and maximum solar activity conditions are performed. The two solar flux spectra have been built using measurements from ATLAS and EURECA missions (Thuillier et al., 2003). They are used to calculate the photolysis rates of the chemistry module and to compute the flux within the broad bands of the model radiation scheme for the two experiments. The differences between the model fields ( temperature, geopotential heights, ozone ...) using solar maximun and solar minimum spectra will be discussed and compared to available observations.
