Temperature and abundance maps of merging galaxy clusters
Abstract
Observations of galaxy clusters that have recently undergone a merger have revealed the presence of substructures in their temperature maps. A detailed analysis of these substructures, together with the study of the distribution of metals in the intracluster medium, may give us several hints for reconstructing the merger history of the cluster. We present abundance and temperature maps for a sample of merging clusters observed with XMM-Newton, using a new technique that we have developed to derive quantitative temperature maps directly from images.
