Increased solid angle in neutron resonance spin echo
Abstract
We have realized a neutron resonance spin echo (NRSE) spectrometer which is combined with a multi-detector array, in order to increase the solid angle of detectable neutrons. NRSE is well adapted for building up such a multi-detector spectrometer, because it needs only relatively compact magnetic coils, compared to Neutron Spin Echo (NSE). The second arm of our spectrometer is shaped conically and allows for measuring at different q-values simultaneously, using three NRSE coil pairs and a detector array after the second spin precession region. The instrumental resolution has been determined using a standard elastic scattering sample, and the function of the spectrometer is demonstrated by measuring classical diffusion in model systems.
