Influence of the Spectral Bandwidth on Polarimetric Measurements in the Visible and Near Infrared Range.
Abstract
The necessity of eliminating lead acetate in the control measurements in the sugar factories, has originated an intensive work in the employment of wavelengths in the range from 0,780 to 0,900 μm for light sources used in automatic polarimeters. The spectral bandwidth of these sources constitutes a critical aspect for its application in these instruments, due to the strong influence of the wavelength in the angular rotation. The advantage that offers the magneto-optic principle is analyzed and it is compared with the direct measuring method. The results obtained in the measurements with a polarimeter that employs a 0.783 μm diode laser as light source, confirm the validity of the obtained results.
