Recent results on AGNs and ULIRGs with NACO Adaptive Optics at VLT
Abstract
We present recent results obtained with the adaptive optics systems NAOS on the very central region of several AGN and ULIRGs. On NGC1068, images with angular resolutions from .06 to .12 arcsec in K, L and M bands reveal totally new features at the scale of a few 10 pc. Thanks to direct cross identifications of well defined structures, it is possible to relate the maps in the radio, mid-IR and UV domains and give a more coherent picture of the immediate environment of the central engine. On Arp 220 it has been possible for the first time to servo an AO system on this very extinct galactic nucleus and get diffraction limited images, giving clues on the AGN/starburst primary source controversy.
