The Jlab Polarized 3HE Target

The polarized ³He target has been used successfully in several recent experiments investigating the spin structure of the neutron at Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility (JLAB). In this note we discuss the two step polarization process of optical pumping of Rb vapor and spin exchange to the ³He nucleus, along with the independent polarimetries used to characterize the high density target cells.
