Status of Space Software's Compiler and Kernel Activities and the ESA Policy
Abstract
In order to ensure sufficient funding and evolution for computer languages for on-board systems, it has been (and will be) essential to limit the number of languages, kernels and tools used. On the other hand competition is needed to ensure good quality to price ratios. This paper describes the current computer languages and runtime systems supported by ESA, the policy adopted and the activities undertaken to ensure that tools are available. Furthermore future activities are discussed.
