Infrared optical constants of ammonia ice
Abstract
Initial results from the continuing study into the infrared optical constants of ammonia ice are presented. The imaginary component of the refractive indicies has been deduced by analysis of transmission spectra at 80K and the real component has been derived using the Kramers-Kronig dispersion relation. Future experimental targets are also outlined including obtaining the optical constants of ammonia ice at temperatures comparable with that of the Jovian atmosphere. Such optical constants will allow more accurate modelling of the recently observed Jovian ammonia clouds.
