New X-ray Transient XTE J1748-361 (may be A1744-36)
Abstract
Observations with the RXTE All-Sky Monitor reveal X-ray emission from a source at (J2000, degrees) 266.97, -36.14 (uncertainty 0.2 degrees at 90% confidence). The source was first detected on Nov. 3 2003, at a flux (2-12 keV) of 42 (7) mCrab, increasing to a range of 100-120 mCrab (daily averages) during Nov. 4-6. The source position is consistent with that of a 1976 transient from the Ariel V mission (A1744-36).
