Isospin Fractionation in Boxed Pseudo-Fermi Matter
Abstract
A schematic model is presented, which allows one to investigate the behavior of isospin-endowed pseudo-Fermi Matter locked in a thermostatic box of variable volume and temperature. It is found that such matter exhibits all salient features of a Van der Waals gas, including phase coexistence and the existence of a critical point. Under suitable conditions, iso-asymmetric matter is seen to exhibit iso-spin fractionation, such that the gaseous phase is more iso-asymmetric than the liquid phase.
