Tailoring Access to Earth Science Data and Information Using ECHO
Abstract
Today, users may find it difficult to use the existing interfaces to find, acquire, and use Earth Science data and information. Experience has shown that one size doesn't fit all. We have learned that diverse user communities can leverage information much more efficiently if they have discipline-specific user interfaces tailored to their needs. Earth Observing System ClearingHOuse (ECHO) allows anyone to build their own, personalized client for targeted science and application goals, based on the same interoperable clearinghouse of metadata and services. This enables more varied and flexible data access options and capabilities. A variety of science and application goals can be met through clients built on the same, common ECHO application program interface (API) framework. This poster highlights a set of existing clients based on this common framework and the potential for reuse of existing capabilities in new tools.
