New Maps of Magnetic and Gravimetric Anomalies in Costa Rica and Nicaragua
Abstract
During the past decade, a large number of scientific cruises collected high quality magnetic and gravimetric data along the Middle America Trench offshore Costa Rica and Nicaragua. The datasets underwent a thorough processing which included a correction for daily variations of the magnetic data. The merged data from 8 cruises provide a good coverage of the Pacific offshore area of Costa Rica and Nicaragua. In addition, we digitized detailed maps of aeromagnetic data and landbased gravity data. Combined with the marine data, we obtained maps which clearly show the magnetic and gravimetric expressions of a large number of tectonic features and thus provide insight into the complex tectonics of the convergent margin.
