X0922-314: a Neglected, Persistent X-Ray Source in the Galaxy
Abstract
All of the major X-ray surveys have detected x0922-314, including Uhuru, Ariel V, HEAO-1, Einstein, ROSAT, and the RXTE ASM. The precise X-ray position is coincident with a very blue optical object with V~21, and this apparent lack of extinction is consistent with the galactic coordinates (259.6, +13.2). The X-ray flux of 7 mCrab is far too bright for an AGN at V~21. The X-ray and optical fluxes and the ASM colors most resemble the low luminosity, ultra-compact binaries such as x1916- 053. There are no RXTE pointed observations of this source. We propose to correct this shortcoming with modest exposures intended to measure the X-ray spectrum, to search for pulsations or bursts, and to make rudimentary assessments of spectral variations and orbital modulations in X-rays.
