Measuring the Proton Beam Polarization Beyond 1 GeV
Abstract
Polarimeters are necessary tools for measuring and maintaining the beam polarization during the acceleration process as well as a yardstick for performing spin physics experiments. In what follows, I will describe the principles of measuring proton beam polarization, and the techniques that are employed at energies above 1 GeV. I will use as a guide, the work done for the Polarized Proton effort at the BNL Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC).
