Chaotic Phenomena in Astrophysics and Cosmology
Abstract
The impact of the concepts of nonlinearity and dynamical chaos on several key astrophysical and cosmological problems is discussed. These problems are chosen to demonstrate the breadth and the depth of that impact: (a) the dynamics of the Solar system, (b) galactic dynamics, (c) properties of the cosmic microwave background radiation, and (d) instability in Wheeler-DeWitt superspace. The advantages of employing the methods of the theory of dynamical systems are sketched and are especially important for sophistocated computer modelling. Recent results indicate the appearance of the paradigm of chaos in cosmological problems.
