Interaction of Solitons In Gardner Equation With Application To Internal Bores
Abstract
The Gardner equation (a modification of KdV with quadratic and cubic terms) was used to describe tide-generated internal waves. Here, a theory of interacting solitary waves is developed within the framework of this equation. Theoretical results are ap- plied to the observational data regarding internal bores in a coastal zone. Evolution of groups of 6 and 9 solitons is calculated for up to a considerable distance. The results are in good agreement with the data, including spatial distribution of solitons within the group.
