Teofilo M. Tabanera (1909-1981) The Divulger
Abstract
The merit of being the first and principal disseminator of space activities in Argentina and South America belongs to the Argentinian engineer Teófilo M. Tabanera. He was the only Latin American signatory of the foundation Act of the International Astronautical Federation and served as one of its Vicepresidents for seven consecutive periods, President of Several Committees and also founder of the academy (I.A.A.) created within the same time frame. He held important positions in several organizations in Argentina in areas of electricity and petroleum. In 1930, he published a pioneering article about the future of space travel. In 1945 he was the first Argentinian member of the British Interplanetary Society and also of the American Astronautical Society, founding member and President of the Interamerican Committee on Space Investigations, founder member of the Argentine Institute of Aeronautical and Space History.
