Spectroscopic Diagnostics for AGNs
Abstract
I will review the spectroscopic tools needed to fully characterize AGNs. Much of the discussion will focus on optical and infrared spectroscopic diagnostics specifically designed to help differentiate AGNs from starburst-dominated galaxies. I will evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of these methods and speculate on their usefulness in the context of future large-scale AGN surveys.
