Meson Production in Hadronic Reactions
Abstract
A meson-theoretical model for two-pion production in the pion-nucleon reaction has been developped for ultrarelativistic energies of the incoming pion. It can explain the f0(980) production anomaly seen in the π-p → π0 π0n reaction by both the GAMS and the BNL experimental collaborations. The new data are compatible with a non-qbar q structure of the f0. The Roper resonance N*(1440), in the Jülich meson-exchange model, likewise shows a strong deviation from a three valence quark structure.
