Pre-Equilibrium Reactions

Analyses of (p, α) and (p, ³He) reactions to the continuum are reviewed, and the importance of analysing powers for determining the reaction mechanism is discussed. Recent analyses using the Feshbach-Kerman-Koonin multistep direct theory of the (p, α) reactions using the alpha-particle knock out model and of the (p, ³He) reaction using the deutron pickup model are described. All this work shows how spin-dependent phenomena provide a powerful tool for the study of the nuclear reaction mechanisms.
