The Geophysical Instrument Pool Potsdam (GIPP) - State and Future
Abstract
For eight years the Geophysical Instrument Pool Potsdam (GIPP) provides geophysical instruments mainly for seismological/seismic and magnetotelluric experiments for groups from GFZ as well as from universities. Due to the existence of the GIPP a lot of geophysical experiments were carried out worldwide yielding important new results. The range of the experiments varies from a 2 year deployment using broadband seismometers to multichannel seismics recording vibrator signals. Presently we are going to introduce a new generation of field data logger. This new data logger was developed by Earth Data Ltd (UK) according to GFZ specifications and design goals. It is characterized by a true 24 bit digitizer, low power consumption, flexible communication interfaces and Linux operating system. We will report the most interesting features of this new data logger of which 50 units are present already as well as the quantity and specifications of sensors available.
