Estimating Monthly Precipitation Over the Tropical Land Surface From Raingage Records
Abstract
The often-used GHCN monthly land-surface (in situ) precipitation (P) archive is augmented with raingage records from Africa, India and elsewhere. Improvements in estimating monthly P in the tropics--obtained by increasing the raingage-network density--are evaluated. Comparisons are made among gridded precipitation fields derived from increasing numbers of raingage observations. This study builds on our previous work on P in South America.
